Thrissur Titans win Kerala Cricket League title thanks to brave youth policy

An enthusiastic bunch of rookies and rising stars from the Thrissur Titans took their supporters through some nerve-wracking moments before clinching the Kerala Cricket League title on Saturday. As the young guns failed to close out the match comfortably, captain M.S. Akhil sealed the victory by slamming a boundary with four balls to spare in the final.

The Titans’ triumph was a strong vindication of the management’s policy of promoting young talent. From giving opportunities to 18-year-old K.R. Rohit in high-pressure knockout matches to handing a debut to pacer Muhammed Irshad in a crucial league match, the Thrissur management was willing to take risks, and the players responded by executing their roles perfectly.

Coach S. Sunil Kumar stated that the average age of the team is 23, the lowest in the tournament, with their oldest player being 35-year-old captain M.S. Akhil. He noted that the team always believed in encouraging young talent through careful scouting to find players who fit into their setup rather than picking them at random.

Despite losing three chases in a row during the league stage and facing issues with scoring in the middle overs, the Titans relied on their batting depth and capable tail-enders to finish games. Coach S. Sunil Kumar expressed full faith in the boys, noting that they kept the final's requirements under control to secure the win.
