Premier League: Decoding Chelsea's 2026 summer transfer window

Chelsea had another busy summer transfer window, completing key moves under new manager Xabi Alonso while also making significant outgoings that kept net spend down. The window closed on September 1, and the club ended with a rare net positive balance.

Among notable arrivals, Morgan Rogers became Chelsea's most expensive signing, joining from Aston Villa for £117m. The club also signed Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for £51m, Geovany Quenda from Sporting for £43.5m, Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £43m, Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano for £16.3m, and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5m. Dastan Satpayev arrived from Kairat Almaty for £2.1m, while Jordan Henderson (free) and Danny Welbeck (undisclosed fee) were also brought in.

On the outgoing side, midfielder Enzo Fernandez joined Manchester City on deadline day for £125m. Other exits included Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa for £65m, Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for £51.8m, Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest for £50m, Andrey Santos to Manchester United for £50m, Trevoh Chalobah to Como for £30.8m, Tyrique George to Everton for £24m, Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig for £14.6m, Tosin Adarabioyo to Tottenham for £10m, and Jimmy-Jay Morgan to West Brom for £4m. Several first-team players were also sent out on loan, including Mykhaylo Mudryk to Spurs, Benoit Badiashile to Napoli, Axel Disasi to Crystal Palace, Robert Sanchez to Como and Filip Jorgensen to Strasbourg; Alejandro Garnacho joined Villa with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer.

Overall, Chelsea made sales worth in excess of £420m – the most by any club this summer – and strengthened almost every position. However, one planned deal fell through: Chelsea's attempt to sign Lamine Camara from AS Monaco collapsed at the last minute after Monaco pulled out.
