Football: Second half surge gives Indians win number one

In Harrisburg, Missouri, the Clark County Indians defense stepped up Friday night at Harrisburg High School to pick up a 37-0 shutout against the Harrisburg Bulldogs following a tough home opener against Bowling Green. In the first two quarters, both defenses were dominating, with neither offense able to put points on the board as they preserved a shutout going into halftime.

The Indians offense came out much sharper in the third quarter, scoring 21 points. Quarterback Bennett Plenge found wide receiver Lukas Weaver for a 22-yard score to give Clark County a 6-0 lead, though the two-point conversion was unsuccessful. The Indians extended their lead to 14-0 when Gabe Tournear raced to the endzone for a 19-yard touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. Weaver then scored his second touchdown of the night as Plenge found him for a 61-yard TD, giving the Indians a 21-0 lead.

Clark County poured it on in the fourth quarter. Tournear scored his second touchdown on a 17-yard run for a 27-0 lead. The Indians added a safety, and Treyvin Hammer delivered the knockout blow with a 44-yard score, converting the two-point conversion to make it 37-0.

Overall, the Indians tallied 335 yards of offense. Plenge went 11 of 18 passing for 205 yards and two touchdowns, while Weaver led as receiver with five catches for 125 yards and two scores. Defensively, the Indians recorded two sacks and one interception.

Now holding a 1-1 record, Clark County will travel to Palmyra to take on the Panthers at 7 p.m. on Friday.
