Cricket West Indies Appoints Bob Carter as Batting Consultant

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially appointed experienced New Zealand coach Bob Carter as its Batting Consultant, starting September 1, 2026. The initial one-year engagement aims to elevate batting standards and enhance the regional coaching system. This appointment comes as the West Indies prepares for crucial international tournaments, including the Men’s ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in February and March 2027.

In his new role, Carter will work across CWI's men's, women's, and youth programs. His mandate focuses on two primary areas: offering specialist technical support to elite and emerging batters, and empowering regional and high-performance coaches to design and deliver effective individual batting programs. Later this month, Carter will embark on a regional tour across all six first-class territories—Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, the Leeward Islands, and the Windward Islands—to work directly with local players and coaches.

Carter brings over 30 years of elite coaching experience, having previously served as a High-Performance Coach for New Zealand Cricket from 2012 to 2025, and Head Coach of the New Zealand Women’s team from 2019 to 2022. CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe emphasized that the success of Carter's appointment will be measured not only by immediate team performance but also by the long-term improvement of local coaches. Carter expressed his excitement about helping build a strong foundation to produce future generations of world-class West Indian batsmen.
