Vuelta a España: Eddie Dunbar edges out Santiago Buitrago to win stage 19

Eddie Dunbar won a chaotic stage 19 of the Vuelta a España in the Andalucian mountains on Friday. The Pinarello-Q36.5 rider launched a decisive attack close to the top of the final climb, riding the final 500 meters alone to claim the victory.

Dunbar had been part of a four-man breakaway group that formed early on the final climb to Peñas Blancas. The group gradually extended their lead over the chasing pack as they neared the summit.

With two kilometers remaining to the finish line, King of the Mountains Santiago Buitrago of Bahrain Victorious launched an attack. However, Dunbar managed to overtake his rival with a late pass to secure his stage win.
