Ukrainian Forces Liberate 200 Square Kilometers in Secret Operation Near Lyman

Ukrainian forces have conducted a four-month counteroffensive operation north of Lyman, liberating approximately 200 square kilometers of territory and pushing Russian troops back to the Zherebets River. Although official Ukrainian authorities and pro-Ukrainian sources maintained strict operational security for months, military analysts and sources from both sides have now begun revealing details of the operation.

According to OSINT analyst Clément Molin, the offensive began in late May and involved units from Ukraine's 3rd Army Corps, including the 3rd Assault Brigade alongside the 60th and 66th brigades. Ukrainian mechanized forces cleared Russian troops from the western bank of the Nitrius River, liberating the villages of Nove and Zelena Dolyna before reaching the northern edge of Kolodiazi. Russian military channels, such as Rybar and Two Majors, have also acknowledged operational challenges and Ukrainian advances around Lyman.

Clearing the Russian salient north of Lyman holds major strategic significance for the regional defense line. Eliminating this position reduces the risk of Russian forces using the area to bypass fortifications and threaten key Donbas strongholds, including Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

Beyond the developments near Lyman, battlefield updates highlight Russia's continued heavy use of FAB glide bombs across Donbas, primarily targeting Kramatorsk, south of Druzhkivka, and northwest of Pokrovsk. Meanwhile, updated data from the Oryx project shows that Russia has verifiably lost 24,066 pieces of heavy equipment since the start of the conflict, compared to 12,097 heavy equipment losses documented for Ukraine.
