Ukraine Contracting Around 1,000 Patriot Missiles With Support from Allies

Ukraine is contracting the supply of around 1,000 missiles for US-designed Patriot air-defense systems with the help of allies and a European Union loan, according to Kyiv's defense minister Yevhenii Khmara. Speaking at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Khmara noted that the majority of these missiles would only be shipped in the coming years, calling for more urgent assistance.

Meanwhile, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany will urgently deliver PAC-2 interceptor missiles from its national military stocks to Ukraine. Pistorius added that Germany will also step up the provision of air-to-air missiles while continuing to deliver drones and long-range ammunition to Kyiv.

In addition, Britain announced a commitment of £100 million ($135 million) to boost Ukraine's winter air defense package, providing Patriot missiles, large-caliber artillery rounds, and drones to help fend off attacks from Russia. UK defense minister Wes Streeting and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius will co-chair a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting focused on the country's battlefield requirements.
