Team Masseur to Represent Slovakia as Sole Entry in World Championships Men's Road Race

Vladimír Kováčik, a masseur for the Slovakian national team, is set to line up in the World Championships men's elite road race on Sunday. He will share the start line alongside top cycling stars including Remco Evenepoel, Mathieu van der Poel, and Isaac del Toro.

Slovakia possesses capable talent with riders such as Lukáš Kubiš of Unibet Rose Rockets, Martin Svrček of Soudal Quick-Step, and Matthias Schwarzbacher of EF Education-EasyPost. However, a series of events ultimately left the national team with fielding their masseur as the only solution.

Prior to the men's elite race, Slovakia experienced a successful World Championships campaign, winning the U23 women's road race. Additionally, Richard Riska secured an eighth-place finish for the country in the men's U23 road race.

This situation comes a decade after Slovakian superstar Peter Sagan won the second of his three consecutive world titles. While Slovakia is not among the major cycling nations, it maintains enough talent to field a competitive roster.
