Ohio Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Amy Acton Unhurt After Incident at Campaign Event

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton was not injured after a man reportedly tried to forcefully push himself toward her during a campaign event at the Canfield Fair on Sunday. Although Acton's campaign initially stated that an armed individual had lunged at her near Youngstown, Governor Mike DeWine later confirmed that Acton told him she was okay and unharmed.

While Acton was not hurt, multiple other attendees at the Mahoning County Democrat booth were injured during the incident. Details regarding the number of injured individuals and the severity of their injuries have not yet been released. Acton's campaign spokesperson, Addie Bullock, stated that Acton and her husband, Eric, were praying for those who were hurt and expressed gratitude for the rapid response of law enforcement.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from Ohio officials across political lines. Governor DeWine and Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson both condemned the violence, praising the quick actions of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Acton's executive protection detail. Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and his running mate Rob McColley also released a joint statement calling the event completely unacceptable, emphasizing that candidates should be able to campaign without fearing violence.
