Top favourites for the upcoming Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada, are taking varied routes to prepare for the event. Cyclists have several build-up races available to choose from ahead of the competition.

The preparation options include the Vuelta a España, the GPs de Montréal and Québec, as well as the men's and women's Tours of Britain. However, few big names have chosen the relatively low-key surroundings of the Tour de Luxembourg for their main build-up race.

Despite the event attracting few major stars, 2023 world champion Mathieu van der Poel is heading to the European nation. He is using the race in one of Europe's smallest countries to put the finishing touches on his World Championships preparation.
