Mark Phillips concerned over £5,000 cost for young British riders to represent country

Mark Phillips has expressed deep concern regarding the financial burden placed on young British riders who travel to represent their country at the European Championship. He noted that the current financial situation of British Eventing (BE) requires these junior and young riders to find upwards of £5,000 each to fund their trips.

This financial requirement has led Phillips to question whether the system is missing out on talented children who cannot afford to be part of the programme. He expressed worry over the potential exclusion of young riders due to financial constraints.

While acknowledging that some riders do receive philanthropic assistance, Phillips emphasized that a level playing field only existed when all expenses were fully covered by British Eventing.
