Mads Pedersen Finishes Sixth in Montreal World Championships Road Race

Mads Pedersen of Denmark finished sixth in the Montreal World Championships road race, crossing the line 14 seconds behind World Champion Brandon McNulty of the United States.

Despite appearing to be out of contention for a good result multiple times during the race, the 2019 World Champion raced defensively. Pedersen stayed within his own limits and relied on his stamina to catch up with the earlier attackers on the final lap, putting himself back in position to compete for medals.

The strategy was laid out by Danish national coach Michael Mørkøv, who was a crucial part of the 2019 selection that helped Pedersen win the rainbow jersey. Mørkøv planned for his star rider to stay out of sight until the final phase of the race.
