Kananaskis and rider Cerys Macaulay achieve success at under-25 World Championships

The 18-year-old horse Kananaskis, ridden by Cerys Macaulay, has achieved notable success in eventing despite unconventional characteristics. Standing at 15.1hh and described by Macaulay as only 18% thoroughbred, the horse does not fit the typical prototype of an elite event horse.

Throughout his career, Kananaskis faced significant setbacks, missing the best part of three years of competition due to injuries and the Covid pandemic. As a result, the horse requires a non-traditional work routine to maintain his performance.

Despite these obstacles, Kananaskis has recorded clear rounds at two junior and a young rider European Championships, multiple Nations Cups, and a five-star competition. In his veteran status this year, he was crowned runner-up at the under-25 World Championships in Millstreet and in the equivalent national class at Bramham.
