Derek Gee-West withdraws from road race at Road World Championships in Montréal

Canadian cyclist Derek Gee-West will miss the opportunity to compete for a medal in front of his home crowd after withdrawing from the road race at the Road World Championships in Montréal. This decision comes five days after the 29-year-old athlete pulled out of the time trial events at the same championships.

Cycling Canada announced the withdrawal of the Ontario-born rider just hours after the completion of the Team Time Trial. Competing without their elite men's national champion, the Canadian team completed the 40.6km event and finished in ninth place.

Gee-West, who rides for the Lidl-Trek team, was previously celebrated on the podium as the best Canadian rider at the 2026 Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec.
