Cousins Jack and Robert Whitaker share grand prix victory in rare dead heat

The 1.40m major grand prix at the recent Arena UK Major Showjumping Championships (15-20 September) yielded a highly unusual outcome when cousins Jack Whitaker and Robert Whitaker finished in a dead heat. Both riders secured clear rounds with an identical time of 31.69 seconds, leading them to share the victory.

While a member of the Whitaker family winning a grand prix is not an uncommon occurrence, this joint victory represents a far more extraordinary result.

With a prize of £6,000 on the table for the winner, the competition was stiff. Seven competitors managed to make the jump-off, including some particularly eye-catching younger horses.
