AI-Led "Agentic Commerce" Takes Center Stage at Global Fintech Fest

Payments and consumer internet companies are preparing for a shift from users approving purchases to AI agents procuring products and completing transactions within preset limits. This concept of agentic commerce was at the front and center of the first day of the Global Fintech Fest.

Agentic commerce refers to AI-led shopping where software can search, compare, order, and pay on a user's behalf.

To manage this transition, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is preparing the proposed Unified Agent Protocol. The framework aims to establish identity, consent, and accountability for AI agents transacting over the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
