Max Verstappen Surprises Himself in 100-Driver Karting Challenge

In the "Max vs 100" event organized by Red Bull at Silverstone on Wednesday, four-time world champion Max Verstappen competed against 100 amateur karters. The challenge required him to start from the back of the grid and overtake all competitors—comprising content creators, motorsport personnel, and athletes—within 30 laps on a purpose-built track.

Despite having up to 30 laps, the 28-year-old Dutch driver needed just 14 laps, or 37 minutes, to complete the task. A strong opening tour saw him clear 64 rivals off the line and through Turn 1, reaching 84 overtaken competitors by lap five. Verstappen admitted the performance surpassed his own expectations after initially seeing how far back he had to start.

The event continues a series of unusual challenges Red Bull has arranged for Verstappen since his debut with the team in 2016, ranging from GT testing to caravan racing with former teammate Daniel Ricciardo. Following the challenge, the driver expressed his enjoyment of Red Bull's events and hinted at the possibility of taking on a future challenge against 200 amateurs.
