Marc Márquez Takes Victory and Championship Lead in San Marino GP

Marc Márquez secured victory at the San Marino GP to take the lead in the 2026 MotoGP championship, finishing ahead of his brother Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta. Meanwhile, local hero Marco Bezzecchi, who started from pole position, crashed out on the opening lap of his home race.

Following Bezzecchi's early exit, Marc Márquez inherited the lead before being passed by Jorge Martín on lap 7. The nine-time World Champion fought back to reclaim the top spot five laps later. On lap 14, Álex Márquez executed a precise move to join his brother at the front, leaving Martín vulnerable to an attack from Pedro Acosta.

The victory marked Marc Márquez's fifth win of the 2026 season, allowing him to snatch the championship lead from Aprilia's Jorge Martín. Although tied on points with Martín, Márquez took the top spot by virtue of having more Grand Prix wins than any other rider this season. He became the fourth rider to lead the championship this campaign, following Acosta, Bezzecchi, and Martín. The race also made championship history as Spanish riders swept the top six positions, with Fermín Aldeguer, Martín, and Raúl Fernández completing the group behind the top three.

Further down the order, Fabio Di Giannantonio finished as the top Italian rider in seventh place, ahead of Enea Bastianini and Luca Marini. Fabio Quartararo secured tenth place, followed by Brad Binder, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, Franco Morbidelli, and replacement rider Pol Espargaró. In contrast, the race proved punishing for several riders, with Jack Miller, Diogo Moreira, Francesco Bagnaia, and Johann Zarco failing to finish due to crashes.
