Lewis Hamilton Retires from Spanish GP Following Brake Issue

Lewis Hamilton's narrow World Championship hopes have taken a blow after he was forced to retire from the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid due to a brake problem.

The incident followed a Lap 1 scuffle between Hamilton and Max Verstappen, which saw the two nearly make contact as the Red Bull was forced off track. Verstappen subsequently went ahead of Hamilton and overtook Kimi Antonelli, but was ordered by his team to concede two positions and give the place back to Hamilton.

Five laps into the race, shortly after Verstappen let Hamilton pass to take third place, the Ferrari driver complained over team radio that his brake pedal was going long. Unable to accelerate for fear of not being able to slow the car down, Hamilton was overtaken by his teammate and the rest of the grid, slipping down to last place.

The Briton was subsequently able to limp into the pits on Lap 7, marking the end of his race.
