Jorge Martin Wins Chaotic Austrian MotoGP Sprint After Pedro Acosta Crash

Starting from pole position at the Austrian MotoGP sprint race, Jorge Martin maintained his lead through Turn 1 despite running wide on corner exit. However, following several close calls with Marc Marquez on the opening lap and skating across the chicane, Martin dropped from first all the way down to eighth place. Soon after, Marquez outbraked himself at Turn 4, gifting the race lead to Pedro Acosta.

Acosta established a strong pace at the front to build a one-and-a-half second advantage, but Martin systematically worked his way back through the field. The Spaniard passed Alex Marquez at the chicane for fourth, used the slipstream to overtake Marco Bezzecchi for third at Turn 1, and then forced title rival Marc Marquez wide to reclaim second place while trailing Acosta by nearly three seconds.

The race took a dramatic turn with three laps remaining when Acosta misjudged his braking point heading into the chicane. The KTM rider skidded through the run-off area and out of contention, handing the lead back to Martin, who held his nerve to claim his 20th career sprint victory and return to the top of the championship standings.

Marc Marquez finished second after holding off Bezzecchi in third, while Ai Ogura, Alex Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia, Johann Zarco, Fermin Aldeguer, and Brad Binder rounded out the points-scoring positions. Pedro Acosta and Franco Morbidelli were the only two riders who failed to finish the sprint race.
