Jorge Martin Claims Austrian GP Sprint Victory After Pedro Acosta Crashes

Jorge Martin claimed an unexpected victory in the Austrian Grand Prix sprint race after Pedro Acosta crashed out of the lead with three laps to go. Acosta had taken charge on the opening lap and built an advantage of nearly three seconds before dropping his KTM at Turn 2 on lap 12, handing the win to Martin, who had completed the first lap down in eighth position.

At the start, Martin set off from pole position but ran deep into Turn 1 before making contact with Marc Marquez at Turn 2, causing him to fall down the order. Acosta capitalized on Marquez missing his braking point at Turn 3 to take the lead. Further back, Martin staged a strong recovery drive, passing teammate Marco Bezzecchi on lap 7 and forcing Marquez wide on the following lap to reclaim second place.

Following Acosta's crash, Martin took the chequered flag a full second clear of Marquez to retake the championship lead by three points. Bezzecchi secured the final podium spot for Aprilia, while Ai Ogura, Alex Marquez, and Francesco Bagnaia filled the next top positions. Acosta and Franco Morbidelli were the only two riders who failed to reach the finish line.
