Ion Izagirre Misses Il Lombardia Farewell Due to Broken Wrist in Training Accident

Ion Izagirre's hopes of a dream sendoff to a highly successful professional career at Il Lombardia have been dashed this week. The setback came after he crashed during a training ride and broke his wrist.

One of the sport's best-known and most versatile racers, the 37-year-old Basque rider had announced his retirement earlier this season.

During this season, he won two well-known Classics, taking the Memorial Miguel Indurain for a third time and winning the Memorial Marco Pantani, which marked the 20th victory of his career.
