Guenther Steiner Says Kimi Antonelli "Should Be in a Ferrari" Following Monza Victory

Former Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner believes Mercedes driver and current championship leader Kimi Antonelli "should be in a Ferrari" following his victory at the Italian Grand Prix. Antonelli claimed his seventh career grand prix win at Monza despite starting 19th on the grid, becoming the first Italian driver to win the event in 60 years.

Speaking on The Red Flags Podcast, Steiner noted that Ferrari is seen as the national team in Italy. He explained that driving for Mercedes, Ferrari's main rival, makes it harder for the 20-year-old to gain full popularity among local fans, despite his extraordinary performances on the track.

The victory at Monza allowed Antonelli to extend his lead in the drivers' championship standings. He currently holds a 66-point advantage over his Mercedes team-mate George Russell in second place, while seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton sits third, 10 points behind Russell.

Antonelli's focus now shifts to the Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring circuit. The Italian set the fastest times in both the second and third practice sessions and finished second-fastest in FP1 behind Russell. Qualifying for the event is scheduled for 4pm local time (3pm UK time) on Saturday, 12 September.
