Controversy surrounds return of 'Pressure Cooker' challenge in 'Big Brother'

The legendary endurance challenge "Pressure Cooker" is set to return to the reality show "Big Brother." However, its comeback during double-eviction week as a Power of Veto (POV) competition rather than the traditional Head of Household (HOH) battle has sparked significant debate. Host Julie Chen Moonves confirmed this change during Thursday night's live episode.

"Pressure Cooker" is renowned as one of the most famous and intense endurance challenges in "Big Brother" history. The competition requires houseguests to remain inside an enclosed space for as long as possible while production introduces distractions, discomfort, and obstacles designed to make them quit. The last remaining houseguest wins. Because it often turns into a marathon battle lasting for hours, the challenge has historically produced memorable strategic discussions and game-changing deals.

The decision to run "Pressure Cooker" as a veto competition in Week 10 instead of an HOH competition has upset many fans. Historically, veto competitions are not broadcast on the "Big Brother" live feeds, which stream on Paramount+ and Pluto TV, with viewers typically learning the winner on Saturdays after the feeds return. CBS has not announced whether it will make an exception for this year's "Pressure Cooker" event.

The competition is expected to take place on Saturday after the veto players are selected. Additionally, Julie Chen Moonves confirmed that this season's double eviction will feature a two-hour live episode on Thursday, Sept. 17, sending two houseguests home in a single night.
