Alpine Condemns Online Abuse Following Azerbaijan GP Collision

Alpine has once again spoken out against online hate and abuse following a controversial incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The clash occurred at Turn 1 during a Safety Car restart, when Franco Colapinto made an audacious manoeuvre that resulted in a collision with teammate Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris's McLaren. Both Gasly and Norris were forced to retire immediately, while Colapinto limped back to the pits to retire, triggering a second Safety Car.

Following the race, Colapinto offered a full apology to Gasly. Meanwhile, Norris called for a one-race ban and stated to media outlets that certain drivers should not be competing in Formula 1. Colapinto was subsequently handed a five-place grid penalty for causing the collision.

The surge in online abuse comes after Gasly previously condemned hateful comments received following the Spanish Grand Prix. Alpine has faced similar situations earlier this season, including after a collision between Colapinto and Esteban Ocon at the Chinese Grand Prix. In a statement issued on Sunday, Alpine stressed that mistakes are part of high-stakes racing and do not justify harassment, pledging to work alongside F1, the FIA, and promoter rights-holders to combat social media abuse.
