15th Castle Combe Autumn Classic Features Iconic Vintage Sportscars

The 15th Castle Combe Autumn Classic delivered fine driving and close finishes as a warm, dry Saturday gave way to drizzly conditions on Sunday. The event featured prominent 1960s British sports car icons, including Austin-Healey 3000s, MGBs, and Lotus Elans.

In the Ian Cox Memorial race for big Healeys, Michael Russell achieved pole position and his first overall four-wheel victory after Marc Campfield missed a gear. Meanwhile, the Motor Racing Legends' Generations Trophy MGB race saw 25 families compete, with father-daughter duo Patrick and Aimee Watts emerging as narrow victors. In the 90-minute GT & Sports Car Cup enduro, Steve Jones and Ben Tinkler secured a tight win aboard an Elan 26R, finishing just 0.267 seconds ahead of Jack Rawles.

Elsewhere, Brian Arculus marked his 200th race start with a victory driving a Lotus Elite in the FISCAR contest. In the Scottish Motor Racing Club events, Joe Ward behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Firenza V8 Supersaloon set the weekend's fastest lap time of 1m13.295s. In the Mini 7 Racing Club, Daniel Munro bagged two race wins, while Jeff Smith claimed the Rick Cutting Memorial Trophy in the Mini Miglia class.

The remaining categories produced equally competitive results. John Danby, Gary Culver, and Wayne Marrs took victories in the Ferrari Club Classic races. Patrick Blakeney-Edwards steered his Frazer Nash Super Sports to victory in the Vintage Sports-Car Club contest, while the Historic Racing Drivers Club races saw wins for Rupert Deeth and Ryck Turner in Top Hat, James Colburn in the Classic Alfa Challenge, and Ben Colburn in the Gerry Marshall Trophy.
